Wallingford, CT (May 25, 2019) - Police have reported that a bicyclist was hit by a car on Saturday afternoon. The bicyclist, identified as Donald Carrelli of Milford, 37, died as a result of the accident.
Authorities have identified Derek Fries of Meriden, as the driver of the motor vehicle. Carrelli was riding his bicycle northbound on Hartford Turnpike. He was nearing Toelles Road when Fries, who was traveling southbound in his car crossed over the double yellow line and hit Carelli.
The police placed Fries under arrest and he is facing multiple charges two of which include driving under the influence as well as second-degree manslaughter with a motor vehicle.
Fries was held in custody until his release where he is expected in Meriden Superior Court on June 7, 2019.
