Tow Truck Driver Killed in Merritt Parkway Collision

Posted by Connecticut Accident News | Apr 24, 2020 | 0 Comments

Trumbull, CT (April 22, 2020) - A major crash occurred Wednesday afternoon in Trumbull. Part of the Merritt Parkway was consequently shut down for hours following the incident.

CT State Police responded to reports of an accident involving a tow truck at around 4:45 in the afternoon. The accident took place on Route 15 south near Exit 47. It has not been elaborated on how exactly the crash occurred, but it has been confirmed that a Mr. Corey John Iodice was killed in the accident. He lived on Magnolia Avenue in Seffner, Florida, and was driving a Iodice Family Transport tow truck at the time of the incident. He was towing a vehicle belonging to a Bridgeport man. This company, presumably owned by his family, operated out of Fairfield, CT.

Employees at Iodice Family Transport have declined to comment on the death of Mr. Corey John Iodice. They have responded with statements like, "Now is not a good time." It is clear that Corey John Iodice was important to them. He had been towing vehicles for more than 30 years.

The Fairfield Fire Department posted this statement on Facebook:

"Today we send our thoughts and prayers to the family of the tow truck operator, our friend, who was killed while working on the Merritt Parkway yesterday in Trumbull.

Interstate 95 and the Merritt are two of the most dangerous places we operate at emergency scenes and we remind everyone that Connecticut STATE LAW states that when approaching a scene a driver must slow down and move over one complete travel lane. IF you are unable to move over you shall slow down to a safe speed until you are clear of the emergency scene.

We know everyone wants to get where they are going but the Tow Operators, Firefighters, Police Officers, Ambulance personnel, and road crews all want to get home to our families at the end of our day.

PLEASE... Slow down and MOVE OVER!!"

Our thoughts are with the victim and their family, along with all of the employees at Iodice Family Transport.
