Stamford, CT (May 11, 2019) - Police have reported that they have taken a man into custody for a hit-and-run that occurred early Saturday morning around 1:00 a.m. Carlos Campo, age 50, allegedly struck a pedestrian and then left the scene of the accident.
The victim was a 22-year old pedestrian who was walking on the sidewalk when the vehicle came upon him on Cove Road near Van Buskirk Avenue. Campo then placed the injured pedestrian into his car and drove him to a location near 300 Seaside Avenue and dropped him off. The victim was taken to Stamford Hospital and has been reported to have non-life-threatening injuries.
Witness accounts led authorities to identify the license plate number and the car, a BMW. When authorities located the car they saw that it had front end damage consistent with what it would look like if it had struck a person. There was also a cell phone that belonged to the pedestrian, which was wedged between the vehicles windshield and hood.
Campo was operating the car at the time it was located. Police indicated that he appeared intoxicated. Police took Campo into custody and gave him a breath test, which he failed.
Mr. Campo was eventually charged with Assault 2nd degree with a Motor Vehicle, Operating Under the Influence, Evading Responsibility, Reckless Operation, and Operating with a Suspended License. He was then held on $10,000 bond.
Our thoughts are with the injured individual and hope he sees a full and fast recovery.
