Southington, CT (May 17, 2019) – Around 1:50 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, police and emergency crews responded to the scene of a motor vehicle accident on Interstate 84 in Southington.
According to police, 56-year-old Mary Dean was stopped in construction along Interstate 84 in a Subaru Legacy when she was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer. The impact of the collision caused the Legacy to strike a barrier, sustaining heavy damage.
After striking the Legacy, the tractor-trailer then struck a Saturn Ion and a Ford Explorer, both of which were also stopped for construction. The force of the impact caused the Saturn to collide into a Nissan Altima, which was on the roadway ahead of it. Additionally, the force of the impact from the tractor-trailer on the Ford Explorer caused a spare tire to dislodge from the vehicle and crash into a Toyota Tacoma
Dean had to be extricated from the vehicle by emergency crews. The two occupants of the Explorer were transported to the Hospital of Central Connecticut for treatment to injuries.
No one else was injured in this incident.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims injured in this crash.
