New London, CT (June 8, 2019) - UPDATE - A woman involved in a crash on Thursday evening on Ocean Avenue has died in the hospital, according to sources.

The crash, which occurred around 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, is still under investigation by authorities. Sources indicate that police and EMS arrived on the scene to find the car which had two individuals inside including the now deceased driver, Susan Wheeler, 73, of Niantic.

Something caused the car to spin out of control and hit several objects, including a pole, before it landed in someone's yard.

It is unclear at this time what injuries were suffered by the other passenger in the car. Investigators are asking the public for any information they may have regarding this incident, and to contact the New London police with any details.

Our thoughts are with the family of Susan Wheeler during this difficult time, and we hope the passenger in the car with her has only sustained minor injuries.
