Madison, CT - Nicholas Proto Killed In Crash At Hammonasset Beach State Park

Madison, CT (June 26, 2019) – On June 22, around 7:10 p.m., Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Environmental Conservation police and emergency crews responded to the scene of a motor vehicle accident at the Hammonasset Beach State Park.

Reports from the incident indicate that an SUV was traveling between the rotary and the ticket booth when the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to roll over.

Two people inside the SUV were ejected from the vehicle.

In all, the driver and three of the passengers were injured in the incident and transported to an area hospital for medical treatments. One of the passengers, later identified as 18-year-old Nicholas Proto, succumbed to his injuries at Yale-New Haven Hospital.

At this time, an investigation surrounding this incident remains ongoing.
