Fairfield, CT (June 1, 2019) -   Police released information regarding an incident involving two young children who were almost seriously injured after a 10-inch metal spike smashed through their car's window.

The incident occurred on Lockwood Road, where the driver of the vehicle had the rotating cutting blade of a commercial lawn mower crash through the car's window nearly smashing into two young children in car seats.  The spike flew by the children's faces just missing them.

The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon. Authorities confirmed the projectile was within inches of the 2-year-old and 3-year-old's faces. It ended up landing on the floor of the car.

First responders were at the scene to assess and provide treatment for the children.  Minor injuries were reported.

Our thoughts are with the families of these two little ones and hope that they recover fully from their injuries.

Anything can happen on the road, even projectiles hitting your car which can result in not just injury to you or your passengers but can result in collisions with other cars. When you are driving with passengers, it is important to have everyone safely buckled up to reduce the risk of injury or death. Children in specific, with their lighter weight and smaller bodies, must be properly restrained in vehicles.  According to a study done by the CDC, an alarming 618,000 children ages 0-12 were in moving vehicles without the proper restraint of a car seat, booster seat, or even the use of a seat belt. This is extremely dangerous.
