East Hartford, CT (June 4, 2019) – On June 3, emergency crews responded to the scene of a major multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 84 just after 5:10 a.m.

According to reports, a school bus and three semi-trucks collided along the roadway. An investigative report of the incident found that two semi-trucks and a school bus were stopped in the center lane of I-84, next to the connecting ramp for Route 2.

A third semi-truck approached the vehicles but was unable to stop. As a result, the front end of the semi-truck collided with the bus, which caused a chain reaction crash that involved two other semis.

Two of the semi-trucks involved in the incident were fully-involved fires and the bus. The third semi's trailer caught on fire, but the driver was able to detach it before it spread to the cab.

Unfortunately, two individuals lost their lives in this accident. The two victims were later identified as 67-year-old Verlean Douglas and 52-year-old Norman Bliss.

Crews kept the area of I-84 closed between exits 51 and 56 for over 12-hours as the cleared the scene of the accident.

Our deepest sympathies go out to the families of both Mr. Norman Bliss and Ms. Verlean Douglas.
