Toyota is voluntarily recalling almost 6.4 million vehicles worldwide, 1.8 million of which are from the U.S., after finding out about seat and steering wheel problems.
A document issued by the Japanese car manufacturer to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration stated that some of the recalled models have a defective seat adjustment railing that might fail to lock front seats. Other defects include a steering wheel that might cause the airbag system to malfunction.
This recall was issued after the Justice Department awarded Toyota a penalty of $1.2 billion over acceleration issues.
