Branford, CT (May 7, 2019) – On Tuesday, May 7, Branford Fire Department responded to the scene of an accident on West Main Street in front of the Whip It Tire Service.

The incident occurred just before 11 a.m. According to Assistant Branford Fire Chief Shaun Heffernan, a 58-year-old male was in the roadway near the Whip It Tire Service garage. He was attempting to add air to one of the tires on a forklift, which was in the back of his truck when the machine fell out of the truck and on top of him.

Firefighters arrived at the scene of the incident to find the male unconscious underneath the forklift. Crews used floor jacks to lift up the forklift so they can remove the male from underneath the machine.

The man was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family of the man who lost his life in this tragic incident.
