Dehumidifiers that can cause fire recalled

Posted by Connecticut Accident News | Sep 18, 2013 | 0 Comments

Over 2 million various electric dehumidifiers that were manufactured by Gree Electric Appliances are being recalled due to risk that they may overheat and cause fire, according to an article published by USA Today on Thursday, September 12.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the recalled dehumidifiers, which have various brand names and weigh anywhere between 20-70 pints, have reportedly caused 46 fires and over $2 million properties to be damaged, but no injuries.

The affect dehumidifiers were sold in major stores in the U.S. and in Canada from 2005 through August 2013. The manufacturer said in a press release that consumers should stop using the recalled product immediately and call 866-853-2802 to obtain a refund. Other details regarding the defective dehumidifier are listed on the CPSC's website.
